This search for carbonate strata for possible use as nuclear waste repository was prompted by studies of two sites: a deep limestone mine near Barberton, Ohio, and near-surface drift limestone mines near Kansas City, Missouri. Geomorphology, bedrock geology, tectonics and seismicity, and hydrology of the two sites are discussed.
