The humidity of filter cake, the specific surface area of the ore determined according to the pellet type, the distribution bentonite particles in filter cake and the quality of bentonite are amongst the effective factors in using bentonite successfully in pelletization. Bentonite plays an important role in using degradable iron ores with low ...
Iron ore pellets and Pelletizing processes. satyendra; February 23, 2013; 4 Comments ; Grate kiln process, Iron ore fines, iron ore pellets, Pelletization processes, Straight kiln process, Iron ore pellets and Pelletizing processes Pelletizing is a process that involves mixing very finely ground particles of iron ore fines of size less than 200 mesh with additives like bentonite and then ...
Abstract: In this study, sodium, calcium, and mixed bentonite samples were used as binders in the pelletizing fine iron ore concentrate obtained from the Divrigi Iron Ore Concentration Plant in Turkey. In the pelletizing tests, sodium bentonite sample was used as received and after upgrading process.
Due to bentonite's water absorption capacity and colloidal properties, bentonite is used as binding additives to convert iron ore fines to pallets. Fine powder helps in to develop good strength pallets. Even at lower additions develops excellent green and dry ball strength. Better binding strength is maintained before and after firing of pallets.
Use of Boron Compounds as Binders in Iron Ore Pelletization Osman Sivrikaya* and Ali Ihsan Arol Middle East Technical University, Department of Mining Engineering, 06531 Çankaya, Ankara, Turkey Abstract: Low grade iron ores with impurity gangue minerals containing silica and alumina must be upgraded to an acceptable level of iron content.
Jan 01, 2012· The pelletization process is the primary consumer of binders in the iron ore industry. The selection of an appropriate binder type and dosage is of critical importance in producing good quality pellets at a reasonable price. Binders accomplish two very important functions in iron ore pelletization:

The iron ore production has significantly expanded in recent years, owing to increasing steel demands in developing countries. However, the content of iron in ore deposits has deteriorated and low-grade iron ore has been processed. The fines resulting from the concentration process must be agglomerated for use in iron and steelmaking. This chapter shows the status of the pelletizing process ...

Nov 26, 2014· Iron Ore Pellets and Pelletization Process. Pelletizing of iron ore was started in the 1950s to facilitate the utilization of finely ground iron ore concentrates in steel production. For the pelletizing of iron ore there are two main types of processes namely, the straight travelling grate (STG) process and the grate kiln (GK) process.
Even though the use of bentonite in iron ore pelletizing is essential, it is also a problem due to its adverse effects, caused by the impurities introduced with bentonite, on iron-steel economy.
Iron ore pellets are spheres of typically 6–16 mm (0.24–0.63 in) to be used as raw material for blast furnaces. They typically contain 64%-72% Fe and various additional material adjusting the chemical composition and the metallurgic properties of the pellets. Typically limestone, dolomite and olivine is added and Bentonite is used as binder.
The most common agglomeration technology in the iron ore industry is pelletization with bentonite being the most often used binder. The addition of very small amounts of Alcotac ® CS allows to reduce the dosage of bentonite by about 50% or more - without compromising on pellet quality. Depending on the quality of the bentonite and ore, sulfur ...
FLOFORM™ Iron Ore Pelletization FLOFORM™, an alternative Traditionally bentonite is used as binder, but it reintroduces deleterious elements such as silica and alumina. FLOFORM is typically dosed at 0.01-0.05% prior to balling, i.e. about 1/20th of Bentonite. Depending on the quality of iron ore, a dual binder system comprising both
The U.S. Bureau of Mines investigated the use of organic binders as substitutes for bentonite in agglomerating iron ore concentrate. Over 30 organic binders were evaluated at several dosage levels ...

Iron Ore Pelletizing Bentonite. The need for iron ore pellets is directly connected to the steel production industry. Through the pelletizing process, iron ore fines are converted into spherical pellets, which are then suitable as feed material in blast furnaces for pig iron production.
For this reason, these long-term tests may not reflect the true behavior of bentonite during iron ore pelletization. Third, the tests are tedious and the results are often inconsistent for different iron ore concentrates, laboratories and technicians. Fourth, some of the testing equipment is difficult to procure.
