Seconding this, though I haven't used one. Those look like they put on a bad mill on a reasonable lathe. Which is far better than compromising on both, or overpaying for a mediocre mill. When you outgrow the mill capabilities, you'll still have a useful lathe. I'm not so sure that's true with the combo machines.

Dec 01, 2007· The cheapest lathe i would look at is a Grizzly. They make a gunsmith specific lathe that is around $3k. I use one of their tool room lathes a bit and find it less than desirable at times. I dont have any experience with the harbor freight machines, but if its like anything else i have gotten from them its not worth the time to set it up.
